Brode Reynolds, was businessman in the early 20's who had the foresight of a Funeral Home for minorities in a rural area of mostly farmers and farm workers. During this era embalming took place in people's homes. He also made removal on his personal car until he was able to get a hearse. He was the father of three children and raise his baby sister along with his own children. He was a considerate man and many times buried people without ever getting paid. He and two of his cousins actually started the first business together in Winton, North Carolina.
Brode decided to branch off and establish a business for him and his family and in 1926 Established Reynolds Funeral Home in Ahoskie, NC. In the early 50' his added his son Lucius to the establishment calling it now Reynolds and Son. Ambulance service was also provided by funeral homes until rescue squads were started by private industry and hospitals, or the state. Once that was started that part of the business was dissolved. In the 70's the business was turned into a corporation and a gain the name changed to Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc.

Brode was a people person and enjoyed the outdoors. He did a lot of fishing and hunting not just for sport but to feed his family and other that he shared with. He was an Elk, Mason, and a part of many other organizations.

He died in 1964. His legacy still lives on.
